Trinidad is a small town with colourful buildings and cars, squares and museums, tourists all over the place, Cuban music and food. It is a Unesco world heritage since 1988.
I booked the round trip bus at the travel agency Cubanacan, at hotel Plaza. It takes about 6-7 hours by bus, the round trip ticket costed 54 CUC (54 dollars). It was very calm. The trip was quite long, so I studied a little bit of Spanish in the bus.
The town isn`t so big, so you can visit most places by walk here as well. Plaza Mayor is one of the main squares, you can start walking from there and visit Casa de la Música, Plaza Carillo, Casa Rafael Ortiz, Parque Central Cespedes, etc.
There are many museums in the town as well, like Museo de Historia Municipal, Museo Romantico, Museo de Arqueología Guamuhaya, etc. Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos shows the fights with militias that were against the revolution, after Batista was taken out. There is a tower, where we can see the town from above.
I regret not going to Valle de los Ingenios, where you can go by train or horse. It looks like a nice small trip. I didn’t go there to save money, because I thought I was already spending too much. So I just walked around the historic centre of Trinidad.
Close to Trinidad there are also a nice beach, with clear water. It is Playa Ancón, about 13 km from city centre. You can go by bus, taxi, or even by bicycle.
On the way back to Havana, the bus stopped in Cienfuegos to wait for more passengers. We had about 30 minutes of free time, so I got out the bus to explore the city. Cienfuegos is very colourful, but different from Havana and Trinidad. It was colonized by French people, so the buildings are different. It is a place I want to visit when I get the chance to come to Cuba again in the future.
